If you're like me, and you have a boring commute to work, it always helps to have some reading material on hand. For the past two weeks, I've been reading this book:
It's a work of fiction about a kick-ass creative agency called Palladio and the adgrunts who work there. If I didn't know better, I would say this fictional agency was modeled after St. Luke's in the UK.
Click continue to read the book's cover flap description. *Please note* this isn't a plug to buy the book. I borrowed my copy from the library. If anything I would recommend you do the same, or steal it from a book store!
In an effort to Reach out and touch someone N.W. Ayer decided to merge with sibling agency under Bcom3 Group parent umbrella, When it rains it Pours unfortunatly and even if A diamond is forever Ayer decided that in order to Be all they can Be, they'll have to discard their old name, and flag their sibling agencies Kaplan Thaler instead.
Most people know the taglines better than them agency names anyway. ;-)
Peter the founder of adcritic.com happily announced the news on the (ad)list today that Adcritic lives!
"Who in DC wants to go out and partay?"
Ad Age group bought adcritic and will relaunche adcritic as part of the ad age network. Small print reveals that - uhoh - "Users will be able to subscribe online for a low monthly fee when the service launches early this summer."
Party that the biggest archive of american ads is coming back online. Sulk at the fact that you'll have to pay for it. ;-)
For those of you who read the article about the hazards of being an adgrunt, I'm happy to say that Washington Olivetto, president and creative director of Brazil's third-largest advertising agency W/Brasil Publicidade Ltda. was rescued at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday
He was abducted December 11 and has spent 53 days in captivity, but despite his ordeal appeared to be in good health.
News flashed by on CNN earlier tonight about this and an article can be found here.
And this sparks a flurry of activity guessing what that memo looked like. How do you tell your agency that twenty people and your entire creative force has to go? And how on earth are they planning on running an agency without any creatives? The Fallon Memo's speculate.......
It is not easy pulling together the top top TV Ads in America and presenting them on your website. We should know we have be collecting TV Ads for 27 years. It is impossible to do this for free. USATVADS charges for its services Ad Critic didn't.

I knew exactly what to expect - I thought - as I got review copies of Herman Vaske's new book
"Standing on the Shoulders of Giants" sent over. I already have a collection of in my opinion, best interviews from Lurzers Archive photocopied and slammed in a binder at home, with two available in the Ad books section - Paul Arden and Tim Mellors - but there is a vast difference between my photocopied binder and the real deal.

Bob Gill has finally crammed some of his best work into one book for the ultimate drool tool. Timeless ideas in logo's and artwork is not his only strengths - telling the stories on how he achieves them is one of his others, as anyone who has been to his lectures knows. A remake of "Forget All the Rules of Graphic Design" has finally been published. Anyone in advertising would get a kick out of this book, from copywriter to designer, as it's irreverant and intelligent. Not to mention full of cool ideas to steal -.. *ahem* get inspired by.. Read more to see some examples... Ps - The publication of Unspecial Effects for Graphic Designers will coincide with a major exhibition of Gill's design and illustration at the School of Visual Arts Museum, 209 East 23rd Street in Manhattan. The exhibition opens Monday, November 5th, from 6-8pm.
American Network Special Causes Flux in Ego-Density Balance of Universe
An American TV network musical special to raise funds for the recent terrorists attacks causes a massive disruption in the ego-gravitational field surrounding planet earth. Astrologists and ego-physicists speculate that the sheer number of massive egos at the musical special caused a disturbance in the normal, Gaussian distribution of egos in the universe.
