Bud Light Party "Food truck" (2016) :30 (USA)

Amy Schumer, Seth Rogen and Michael Peña talk a lot without saying anything meaningful in this spot for Bud light. In other words, they sound a lot like politicians.

This spot conveniently aired during the Oscars, an event many accused of being "too white." So Michael Peña, the only non-white star here, gets a call-out as being the "super-delegate." That's like a tongue-in-cheek way of saying "token," right? Cause it sure sounds like it to me. And I guess pointing at food is a lot easier to try and unite us, if not an extremely simplistic analogy to make. But this is what happens when generation Tumblr tries to have a meaningful discussion and a brand jumps on whatever topic du jour whether it is relevant to them or not.

The funny part to me isn't Amy Schumer or Seth Rogen (obviously) or the endless litany of melting pot metaphors, special shout out to poutine, though. No, the funny part to me is that despite the smirking cleverness, this spot accidentally managed to give us a reason to drink Bud Light: It goes great with all kinds of food.

Shhh, don't tell anyone. Otherwise they'll pull the spot, since spots aren't allowed to sell anything any more, but "join the conversation."

Amy saying "smorgasbard" instead of smörgåsbord" really sent it home. Tsssk. Americans. Or wait, Canadians? Either way, people-who-speak-english. STOP APPROPRIATING MY WORDS YO* ! ;)
