Carl's Jr - Mrs. Robinson / Heidi Klum / The Jim Beam Bourbon Burger (2013) :30 (USA)
So many layers of borrowed interest here, I'm not even sure what they're selling. Who are they trying to appeal to? Baby-boomers? Fans of Project Runway? Dustin Hoffman aficionados? Cougar-hunters? Jailbait-chasers? People who like Bourbon? All of the above? I recognize one thing here, the old "sex sells fast food". This is how I know it's a Carl's Jr / Hardee's commercial, because a celebrity lady is writhing while biting burgers in it. They're the Playboy of burger-joints. It's like they're fulfilling rule 34 for people who have a burger fetish.
Just like the patty melt the burger regenerates after every bite. Carl's JR could feed the world.
The Tutor Crowd corrects graffiti & street slogans saving us from bad grammar
thetutorcrowd.tumblr.com is the tumblr where all the helpful street graffiti tutoring has been collected for your enjoyment. You see, people who vandalize walls usually don't have the best grasp on spelling and grammar. They'll write slogans like "Less Boats, More Fish" (Oh wait, that was greenpeace), and forget where the apostrophe goes despite Bob the angry flower's helpful guide. So The Tutor Crowd, which is a website that helps you find tutors, have made this clever campaign to alert yobs out there of their services. Cheap on media?
Playboy poster with augmented reality layer allows smart phones to see more of the models
Playboy are trying their hand on being cutting edge advertisers, with this street poster that has augmented reality. First, you have to download the Layar app in order to be able to see the augmented reality attached to this street poster. Like the Lexus swimsuit model print ad which already used an extra layer to a print ad, the extra you get to see with this poster is simply more of the ladies. Unlike the Lexus ad though, there's more that just what meets the eye, as the Layar app unlocks music playlists and behind the scenes videos from the models photo shoots as well.
Toronto Crime Stoppers Ball - Triangle / Mexican standoff - (2013) :30 (Canada)
The Crime Stoppers Ball is an annual fundraiser attended by Toronto’s Chief of Police and other high-ranking officials. With so many of the city’s crime fighting elite occupied at the event, it would be “The Perfect Night to Crime.”
This explains the sudden Mexican standoff at the Kwik-e-mart.
Playtex launches Fresh + Sexy Intimate Wipes with beavers, Jezebel has a cow.
In the world where there are no bidets (ie; everywhere but France), but urinary tract infections and there's a monthly Clean-Up in Aisle One needed Playtex have launched their Fresh + Sexy Intimate Wipes and are selling them on sexy-time, unlike competing brand products who only vaguely discuss "freshness" and target women only.
NCAA - Think of Us / Marching band (2013) :30 (USA)
Think of the NCAA as a marching band. No wait, don't think of them as a marching band. Think of them as a cheering squad.
How about we just think of the NCAA as something that makes students uncomfortable. Because all I see in this spot are uncomfortable students.
NCAA - Think of Us / Spirit squad (2013) :30 (USA)
Think of the NCAA as a spirit squad. Which is not to be confused with a spirit animal.
Smart car run with pigeon poop joke in case study.
Smart car responded to Clayton's tweetjoke with a neat infographic about bird poop, and we applauded how faboo their attitude was, as they took a joke and ran with it. "Outsmarted by a smart car" as Clay put it. Smart cars social media presence is very good worldwide, they did do the first ASCII animated twitter page too.
The Guardian : Points of View - military, internet privacy and gun control posters
No, it's not the Points of view ad from 1986 but the Guardian are still showing you different points of view. Using the same flip-the-poster trick as the marmite rice cake snack and countless other posters used, the image is quite different when you turn it around.
autoTRADER.ca - 'Bank Job' - (2013) (Canada)
DDB Canada brings us this odd little bank robbery and car chase, where the brilliant mastermind behind the robbery is only doing it for free advertising for his car. A wee bit like how some ad people perpetrate hoaxes in the hopes of maybe making a video go viral and get press that way. You can't blame the guy for trying really, a live chase on air will get that phone number seen by lots of people, obviously, and maybe one of them is even interested in buying a car.
Shapa Radio Advertising - Booster cards case study
MEANWHILE IN ISRAEL.. a country that is feeling the same crunch that the rest of the world is, some crafty ad people decided to sell their media (radio) via ... business cards. Wait, this is pretty thanks to (gasp!) QR code. A website was created where people could put their info in, and their erecived pretty blue cards with on QR code on them, but listen to the code and it's basically a radio ad for you. The second example in the clip reminds me a little of the Canon shutter dance 2008 which won Grand Prix in Cannes. Radio can be very clever way to advertise.
Heineken - The Candidate - (2013) 3:37 (Italy)
"Standard questions. Prepared answers. If job interviews are all the same, how to find the right talent among 1734 applicants?" asks Heineken before they take you on a three minute hidden camera show of how they really mess with their prospective employees by faking heart attacks and building fires and all sorts. In the end, the right Guy got the job. (Sorry, I had to)
SocialmediaWeek - Nobody Wants To Be Your Friend - (2013)
Ok, I like "security is making me leave. Sadface" - but I've seen this idea before. Lesson to learn : If you use a megaphone in social media, you do suck.
Anti-bullying chrome extension - Cleaning the internet - (2013)
BBR Saatchi&Saatchi & Startupseeds have jointly created this Chrome extension which erases the bad words before they hit the message boards. The idea is that cyber-bullying has to stop, and by installing the chrome extension the bully can't bully, unless they use firefox. The extension detects offensive words like "ugly" and "kill yourself" and replaces them with positive ones instead. While I do like the geeky execution/idea I wonder if it'll have any impact at all on cyber-bullying.

Boston based Connelly and Partners want you to know this Valentine's Day that new business pitches are a lot like a first date: awkward, and rehearsed. But like all great relationships, you can learn from them even if you lose.
Wait a second. What's wrong with being different?
