Nike SB Eric Koston 2 - The Legend Grows - (2013) (USA)
The Koston shoe line, which is "inspired by pro-skateboarder Eric Koston" according to the release has this ad on air from march 22nd. Inspired by? What does that mean? Is that a PR way of saying "we thought he was cool so we licensed his name"? Never mind, in the ad we get to see what Eric Koston can do, as his legend grows to a tall tale as told by Tiger Woods, Olympic Gold Medalist Alyson Felix and The Cleveland Cavalier’s Kyrie Irving, among others. Eric escapes security, their tazers, a crazy dog, and even a hurricane - my only beef would be that the rain is mentioned long after it's actually first seen which makes me want to yell "CONTINUITY!"
Nike SB used Kirshenbaum Bond Senecal + Partners (kbs+) for their skateboarding ads.
Poetica - Poetica - (2012) :208 (US)
Poetica, the hybrid collective of artists and filmmakers that recently launched in New York and Los Angeles, has released a soulful brand film from Director Anthony Furlong. A blend of man-on-the-street-style interviews, performance footage, and confessionals, the poignant film expresses the artistic soul and creativity at the heart of Poetica’s work through the words of artists across New York: dancers, opera singers, boxers, skateboarders, chess players and fashion designers.
SMART - Skate for two, feat. Kilian Martin and Alfredo Urbon - (2012)
If I could buy a car based on advertising alone, I would have driven a VW Cabrio back in -01, a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia in the 60s and a smart car now. Not just for their clever use of twitter for their branding, with the animated ASCII art and smart comebacks. They have also just made the wee tiny two-seater thingie a cool feature with this clip, instead of a potential negative.
Famous Footwear "Flicker" (2011) :30 (USA)
Campbell Mithun uses a flicker effect in this 2011 back-to-school spot for Famous Footwear to demonstrate how shoes can inspire a new you to "Make Today Famous."
Vodacom - Skateboard DJ / Unlimited music - (2011) :60 (South Africa)
Suave skateboarding dude invents a new way of DJ-ing - and it brings him fame in 60 seconds flat.
"Conceptualised by Draftfcb’s Group Creative Officer, Brett Morris and Creative Director Gareth Paul, Copywriter Melusi Mhlungu and Art Director Bradley Stapelton, the ad for the Color ur tunes bundle was directed by Velocity Films’ Adrian de sa Garces.
The protagonist is a young skateboarder whose Vodacom phone is delivered preloaded with unlimited music. He ‘gum-sticks’ the phone to his board, and sets off on a journey through the city and on which he transforms into a famous and adored ‘DJ Skateboard’.
Lucozade Sport Lite - Faster, Louder, Stronger, Better - (2011) :90 (UK)
This is sure to make the UK kids wish they lived in L.A. near a beach instead of rainy old London (or wherever), I'm sure. The roller-skating and skateboard-tricking beauties in the video make you want to join in. Maybe if I drink enough Lucozade I won't fear breaking my bones doing what they're doing.
Burn Energy Drink - Ride / 3 minute skater stunt film
Coca-Cola Europe with the help of Publicis Mojo, Sydney finally look like they have a shot at toppling Red Bull from the top throne of the European market. Forget "dance all night" type ads aimed at the techno-crowd, and say hello to short films featuring kids doing crazy things as they burn energy, and in this one literally burn.
Famous Footwear - Back to School / Make today famous (2010) :30 (USA)
Check out the behind the scenes on how this ad was made.
Mennen Speed Stick - Pool Skater - (2010) :20
Here's a neat impossible feat, we know that some pools are great as skating ramps but have you ever tried skating in a full pool? Didn't think so. It'll be just like those bizarre nightmares I have where I have to fight off some monster and just as I throw a swing at them the underwater phenomena kicks in and my mean punch becomes a wussy slow-motion splash. Then when I wake up it's due to Folgers trippy sunshine happy all over the place seeping through my curtains - and my boyfriend wonders why I'm grumpy in the morning. Walk a mile in my heels, dude.
Mecal - Bladder (2010) 2:00 (Spain)
From Atletico International in Barcelona, Spain: "Alfred Hitchcock said: "The length of a film should be directly related to the endurance of the human bladder." This quote was our inspiration for our last campaign for MECAL, Barcelona Short Film Festival. From now on, the first bladder friendly festival."
Activision - “Skateboarding Dog” - (2009) :60 (USA)
We've been a fan of the skateboarding dog Tillman for years, it is only right that this bulldog gets his own commercial, playing the Tony Hawk video game. Way to go Droga5.
