Toronto Crime Stoppers - You stay anonymous - (2013) print Canada
DDB Canada explains " We wanted to boil down the fundamental proposition of Crime Stoppers in the simplest most compelling way — if you witness a crime and report it, you retain your anonymity. This campaign strives to remind people of that simple truth. " The images show crimes being committed while obscuring the anonymous witness' face. Simple.
McDonalds - Spicy Thai McBistro Chicken Sandwich / Pre roll ad - (2013) Canada
In this made for youtube pre-roll ad, the spicy sauce is meant to be igniting the player below. The spark moves along with the video player timer, until the frame goes up in flames. Of course by then you will have clicked "skip ad" already.
Cassie Awards "Teenager" (2013) 1:00 (canada)
No one cares about awards in advertising except people who work in advertising.
Cassie Awards "Ex-Wife" - (2013) 1:00 (Canada)
The Cassie Awards are here. That time of year when people in advertising win awards and show the rest of the world who clearly don't care. What is it they say about humor only being one step removed from tragedy?
Cassie Award "Cop," (2013) 1:00 (Canada)
Whee, the Cassie Awards are here. And only people in advertising care! Strike that-- only people who work in Canada in advertising care! Strike that-- only people who work in advertising in Canada who are friends with the white powder care. That was the whole bit at the beginning, right? Sniff, sniff?
Bugles "Stack 'ems" (2013) :15 (Canada)
Love the Ikea reference to assembling a tower. And also that you embraced the fact Bugles suck and no one wants to eat them.
Bugles :Dress Ups" (2013) :18 (Canada)
Dress 'Ups? Kinda like Mr. Dressup? Yeah we got that when I lived in America, too. Bugles, you so silly.
Bugles :Chess-Its (2013) :15 (Canada)
More retro silliness from Bugles from that Canadian agency Cossette. Nice title-- guess it's a dig on Cheez-its, eh?
Eh? Geddit? Narf narf narf.
Bugles "The Game You Can Eat" (2013) :30 (Canada)
Cossette taps into late 70's early 80's nostalgia, by trying to make Bugles the game you can eat Emphasis game.
Bugles: The Game That You Eat
Courtesy of Cossette Toronto, this campaign encourages you to treat Bugles as "the game you can eat," which is great because I remember having these when I was a kid and it was kind of like eating salty sawdust. Weird stuff.
Hyundai Canada: Gaspocalypse 1:00 (Canada)
It’s Mad Max meets comedy with this spot to sell the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. This will air in Canada during the Super Bowl on CTV .
It's kinda silly, but it's a nice choice of music.
But Gaspocalypse? I long for a day when we won’t have to make up words.
Volkswagen "Butcher" (2013) :30 Canada
Volkswagen Canada are talking up this spot in a "how on earth did they hang two 3,000 pound Jettas on a wall?" Um...i don't know. The same way they hung cars upside down at a restaurant I used to go to when I lived in Pennsylvania? It ain't that hard really. Even hanging them vertically.
No, the larger question of this spot created by Red Urban Toronto is "Since when is car shopping an impulse purchase?" Answer: never.
Looks nice though. nice and clean like all Volkswagen spots. it's just that hanging the cars on a wall is the most believable part of it.
Happy Creepy Christmas from Swiss Chalet (Canada)
This destined to be classic from the Canadian chain is from 2009, I think.
I remember living in Montreal when I first saw it. I was sitting next to a civilian* when I turned to them and asked "Is this a completely creepy disturbing ad or what?
I soon shared the creepiness with other friends. From then on, every time the commercial aired, we made up stories about the daughter and father. Exactly why is she so taken aback when he arrives? Why does she feign ignorance at being taken to her "favorite place?" And why does she act with such a degree of stoic sadness when he ahem-- imitates rudolph.
Feel free to take a break from your egg nog and make up your own stories.
Calgary Farmers Market - Cow, Rooster, Pig (Snow angels)
Hmmm. Snow angels made by a cow, a pig and rooster. Sadly, at first glance on the cow one I thought we were dealing with a mutant naked man. Oi. I need sleep.
Accueil Bonneau Montreal - Shelter / Stairs / Street - (2012) :30 (Canada)
“When a homeless person gets out of the streets ... too often, they fall back in”.
Accueil Bonneau wants to remind the general public that they need donations to continue supporting the homeless by responding to their basic needs and offering social reintegration services. They do this by taking you through a walking tour of MC Escher's house.
Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA) - Connecting / Paper - (2012) :30 (Canada)
Directed by The Embassy's Ozan Biron , this stop-motion and paper craft inspired computer animation spot aims to engage and educate viewers about the CEPA and drive traffic to AboutPipelines.com. It reminds me a tad of the NZ Book Council - Going West back in 09.
To add character and the look of real paper to the spot, the team at The Embassy deliberately added the imperfections that real folded paper would have - intentionally making the edges not line up, adding bits of tape, creating offsetting folds and warped edges of paper curling up.
SickKids - You Got It - (2012) :30 (canada)
Picture this: A four year old leukemia patient braving the MRI table for his next scan. A newborn in an isolet hooked up to oxygen. A child being rushed to the emergency department by ambulance. A dad cradling his baby in a rocking chair in the baby’s hospital room. A teenage cancer patient in her bedroom putting on her wig. A mom and her son doing crafts in a hospital playroom in between his treatments.
Green Beaver Natural Toothpaste 'Wedding' (2012) :30 (Canada)
That. Tense. Moment.
