... I'll take the low road
The canny Scots have a new tourism slogan. Wait for it - "Welcome to Scotland". That's a cracker isn't it? It replaces the previous worldbeater "The Best Small Country in the World".
Apparently there will be extra slogans in the new campaign. Like "World Leader in Learning"..."First To Introduce Universal Education"...the brain-snapping "Home of Europe's Fastest Growing Life Sciences Community" and my personal favourite - "Home of Golf".
I dunno...I think we could do better than that couldn't we? "Home of the Single Malt" perhaps?
Or "Scotland? - You're Standing In It?"
"Have a Fling While You're Here".
"Scotland Take Your Hand Off It".
"Scotland - there's more to us than just whisky breath".
"Scotland - Now with EXTRA SLOGAN!"

PermalinkBlame the vikings. They still say "bairn" for "children" (from Norse "barn") and I heard someone say "I gotta go uit de huis" in a way that sounded exactly like she said "ut ur huset" in Swedish. ;P

PermalinkYes, the Vikings are to blame for everything. They started world conquest, and it's been all downhill from there. :-) Or uphill depending on your point of view!!!

PermalinkDownhill - it wasn't world conquest as much as it was "the barbarians are at the gate", with societies far more evolved succumbing to some rabid fur-clad macho-men. ;) I guess the only things we can be proud of are laws, ombudsmen, the invention of divorce and spousal support and of course a proper ting rather than forum. Not that I'm a geek or anything.

PermalinkWell, my younger son, with his mother's Norwegian blood surging through his body would point out that you descendants of the vikings have lots to be proud of, but I guess I'll leave that list to him. Although, are eleven year old boys allowed to comment on Adland? :-)
