As Mrs. Lagow sends her class home for the Christmas holiday as the bell has rung, she tells everyone to enjoy themselves, and not to forget their homework. In the now quiet classroom, she finds Peter, waiting.
Peter says that his mother wanted to thank her for all the help she's given, helping him to read. Staying after school, and even that one time when she came in early in the morning to tutor him. That's what his mom wanted to say. And Peter hands her a card, and says "This is from me."
"Would like me to read it for you?"
