Achievement awards and Hall o' Fame

Lee Clow will receive the 2004 Lifetime Achievement Award at the 45th annual Clio Awards, May 16 in Miami Beach, Fla.

Clow, chairman and chief creative officer of TBWA Worldwide, was chosen due to his work on accounts such as Apple Computer, Taco Bell, Nike, Nissan Motors and Energizer, among others. He helped create spots including Apple's "1984," the computer maker's "Think different" campaign and ads featuring the Energizer Bunny.

Also, two influential creative teams will join The One Club Creative Hall of Fame in January on the 21st at The One Club in New York City.

Jeff Goodby and Rich Silverstein, co-chairmen of Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco (Anheuser-Busch, Nike and Hewlett-Packard, as well as the California Milk Processor Board's long-running "Got milk?" campaign), along with Mike Tesch, now at Kelly Swofford Roy Advertising in Coral Gables, Fla., and the late Patrick Kelly will be inducted, the organization said today.

If the names Tesch and Kelly don't ring a bell, here's a bit about them from the article:
Tesch and Kelly, who died in 1994 of leukemia, were a creative team at Ally & Gargano in New York in the 1970s and early '80s. There they created ads for accounts such as Tonka, including one that showed an elephant stepping on a yellow Tonka truck, and the first campaign for Federal Express, which introduced "fast-talking man" into popular culture.

Referring to the FedEx campaign, which humorously mocked the business culture of the 1980s, Warlick said, "We get so wrapped up in contemporary new advertising, and we have to remember that people like Mr. Kelly and Mr. Tesch, working 20 years ago, were fusing entertainment and advertising in a way that's often emulated today."

"It's a wonderful thing," Tesch said about the honor. "Patrick and I did some good stuff and it's nice to see it's appreciated."
