Rob Abeyta, Jr. Joins 72andSunny

Renowned painter, street artist and graphic designer Rob Abeyta, Jr. has joined Los Angeles ad and design firm 72andSunny as an art director.

Before joining 72andSunny, Abeyta was an art director at Nike, where he supervised the design of six seasons of footwear and apparel for a new streetwear line introduced in 2006. He also spent five years with Spike Jonze's company Fourstar Clothing Co., designing skateboards, apparel and footwear, and creating the advertising and promotional videos. Abeyta has also collaborated on numerous limited-edition skateboards, T-shirts and sneakers for Stussy and for retailers Undefeated and Upper Playground.

Abeyta's solo artwork has been shown at the Orange County Museum of Art and galleries throughout Los Angeles and New York. In 2006, he was one of 16 global artists, along with Geoff McFetridge, Kaws, Mister Cartoon and others, who were profiled in the Stussy "World Tour" documentary co-sponsored by Nike.

Because of his deep roots in the art and design world, Abeyta brings a unique perspective to 72andSunny. His first project out the door is overseeing and curating the Zune Arts Program, Microsoft Zune's ongoing artist collaboration initiative. This project had Abeyta tapping into his inner and outer circle to bring on prominent graphic designers and street artists such as Tofer, iLovedust, Yuko Shimizu, and Porous Walker to participate in the program, which can be viewed at www.zune-arts.net.

Said John Boiler, Creative Director and co-founder, 72andSunny, "Rob has a special curiosity that's taken him to lots of places, and that falls in sync with a lot of people and interests at 72andSunny. From his own art, to designing shoes and apparel, even learning to tattoo from the legendary Mr. Cartoon—it's that natural curiosity and need to grow and create that probably led to us finding each other."
